Body confidence is a person’s perspective of their body of how they see themselves. As a high school teenager, I have seen a lot of people not being able to gain confidence about their body. Body confidence is highly influenced by the people surrounding us.
Our friends, family, and society tend to point out to us about our body, which makes us want to get a perfect body and thus resulting in self-harm or even eating disorders. Getting the perfect body has been the foremost goal of almost every teenager. We are often insecure about our body and one negative comment can make us feel really bad about ourselves. We all have our own unique physical traits and we certainly don’t want anyone telling us about how we are supposed to look or dress.
We affect our health to please everyone around us, forgetting the nourishments our body requires. If we’re “too skinny” that’s a bad thing and if we weigh “too much” that’s a bad thing. Having someone to constantly criticize us makes us feel like we’re not good enough and makes us feel pressurized about our own body type.
Gaining body confidence plays a major role in improving our mental health. It is also extremely difficult to have a positive perspective about your body knowing someone will always criticize you for the way u look. To fulfill the needs of the society, of how they see us we go through depression, anger or even self-loathing.
A simple compliment will not only boost us but it will also increase our confidence. It will help us be ourselves, not caring about what anyone has to say.
